Biography

For more than two decades, David Carr, MD, has helped patients with a variety of medical conditions as a provider at Novant Health Salem Surgical Associates. He is a board-certified general surgeon who exclusively performs benign and oncologic breast treatments, allowing him to offer both surgical and nonsurgical interventions to his patients. "I enjoy helping my patients understand their health situations and determine the best treatment plan for them," Dr. Carr said. "I like taking difficult emotional problems and making the situation as comfortable as possible."

Dr. Carr pioneered the sentinel node biopsy in the Winston-Salem area and initiated the Mammosite partial breast irradiation service locally as well. He says he chose to focus his career on surgery because of the immediacy of relief for his patients. "I like acute problems that require a fast fix," he explained.

Together, he and his nurse, Pam, work to give every patient individualized care. "I want all of my patients to know that Pam and I genuinely care about them," he said.

Outside of work, Dr. Carr enjoys spending time with his wife and their two sons and one daughter, all of whom are grown and out of the house. "We love getting back together," Dr. Carr said, "especially to spend time with my extended family at Topsail Beach every Thanksgiving."
